Requirements
To obtain a private pilot’s license, you must:
- be at least 16 years old to Solo
- be at least 17 years old to Test for the Pilot Practical Exam
- have a current FAA third-class medical certificate
- log at least 40 hours of flight
- have at least 20 hours of flight with an instructor
- have at least 10 hours of solo flight
- pass the FAA Private Pilot Airmen Knowledge written test
- pass an FAA Private Pilot Practical Exam
To obtain an instrument rating, you must:
- have a current private certificate or concurrently applying to have one
- have a current FAA third-class medical certificate
- at least 50 hours of cross-country flight time as pilot in command.
- a total of 40 hours of actual or simulated instrument time
- at least 15 hours of instrument flight training from a CFII.
- pass the FAA Instrument Airmen Knowledge written test
- pass an FAA Instrument Practical Exam
To obtain an commercial pilot certificate, you must:
- be at least 18 years of age
- be able to read, speak, and understand the English language
- hold at least a private pilot certificate
- have at least 250 hours of logged PIC flight time
- pass the FAA Commercial Pilot Airmen Knowledge written test
- pass an FAA Commercial Pilot Practical Exam
