Requirements

To obtain a private pilot’s license, you must:

  • be at least 16 years old to Solo
  • be at least 17 years old to Test for the Pilot Practical Exam
  • have a current FAA third-class medical certificate
  • log at least 40 hours of flight
  • have at least 20 hours of flight with an instructor
  • have at least 10 hours of solo flight
  • pass the FAA Private Pilot Airmen Knowledge written test
  • pass an FAA Private Pilot Practical Exam

To obtain an instrument rating, you must:

  • have a current private certificate or concurrently applying to have one
  • have a current FAA third-class medical certificate
  • at least 50 hours of cross-country flight time as pilot in command. 
  • a total of 40 hours of actual or simulated instrument time 
  • at least 15 hours of instrument flight training from a CFII.
  • pass the FAA Instrument Airmen Knowledge written test
  • pass an FAA Instrument Practical Exam

To obtain an commercial pilot certificate, you must:

  • be at least 18 years of age
  • be able to read, speak, and understand the English language
  • hold at least a private pilot certificate
  • have at least 250 hours of logged PIC flight time
  • pass the FAA Commercial Pilot Airmen Knowledge written test
  • pass an FAA Commercial Pilot Practical Exam
